چکیده

The Dripping Handrail Model (DHR) is a discrete dynamical system used to model a binary star system in which matter accretes off of one star onto the other. With this model, we study the behavior of the matter as it collects in a ring around the star, called an accretion disc, builds up, and eventually drips onto the surface of the star. Considering the accretion disc as both a one dimensional and two dimensional “rail” divided into discrete cells, we investigate numerical evidence of chaotic behavior on a certain invariant subset, and ergodic behavior of the system as a whole. Subject headings: binary star system; accretion disc; chaotic; ergodic; invariant subset

The Dripping Handrail (DHR) is able to successfully model several features of the fluctuating x-ray emission observed from certain types of compact stars [1,2]. Although the accretion rate in the present model is assumed constant over each run, there are physical reasons for allowing it to vary dynamically within the system. Allowing such variability may also have the beneficial effect of produ...

Two Novel Chaos-Based Algorithms for Image and Video Watermarking

In this paper we introduce two innovative image and video watermarking algorithms. The paper’s main emphasis is on the use of chaotic maps to boost the algorithms’ security and resistance against attacks. By encrypting the watermark information in a one dimensional chaotic map, we make the extraction of watermark for potential attackers very hard. In another approach, we select embedding po...

Physics 256 Natural Computation & Self-Organization Coupled-Oscillator Models: State-Space & Dynamics

Objects and systems at all scales operate by a mix of internal impulsion and external influence. This phenomenon, ubiquitous and accurately modeled by simple systems of coupled oscillators, are observed in systems of elementary subatomic particle, biological populational dynamics and interactions of heavenly bodies on an astronomical scale. Despite the simplicity of coupled oscillator models li...

Chaotic Test and Non-Linearity of Abnormal Stock Returns: Selecting an Optimal Chaos Model in Explaining Abnormal Stock Returns around the Release Date of Annual Financial Statements

For many investors, it is important to predict the future trend of abnormal stock returns. Thus, in this research, the abnormal stock returns of the listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange were tested since 2008- 2017 using three hypotheses. The first and second hypotheses examined the non-linearity and non-randomness of the abnormal stock returns ′ trend around the release date of annual fin...

Simulation of a Dripping Faucet

We present a simulation of a dripping faucet system. A new algorithm based on Lagrangian description is introduced. The shape of drop falling from a faucet obtained by the present algorithm agrees quite well with experimental observations. Long-term behavior of the simulation can reproduce period-one, period-two, intermittent and chaotic oscillations widely observed in experiments. Possible rou...
